Don't Take from Tomorrow to Give Today

Tuesday, December 2, 2014

I absolutely love this season of giving.  And while my husband and I don't lavish our children with gifts on Christmas Day, I understand the desire to do so.  After all, I feel that as parents we are to exemplify God's love for his children to our own children - encouraging them to open their minds and heart to His even-greater love.  So in that respect, it makes perfect sense to lavish children with presents - since we too are lavished by God's grace and mercy and blessings and the gift of His only son.

But I also know that we are called to make responsible decisions with money - and that the debtor is slave to the lender.  For that reason, I become angry and frustrated when I hear advertisements offering lay-away and payment plans and no money down and 0% interest - potentially taking advantage of parent's good intentions and the desire to see their children's happy faces at Christmas.

Love this! A good reminder this Holiday season :)

The World is Not Made for People on a Budget

If you ask me, exercising self-control of any type has moments when it's not so easy - right?  It's a continual battle of the will.  But even if you have mastered your will to point of total submission to what you "ought to do," you haven't necessarily conquered all outside forces.  There are always temptations lurking around the corner.

Gentry's Farm

Monday, October 20, 2014

Last week, my parents (Nana and Pap to the kiddos) took us to local Gentry's Farm where we rode a hay ride, ran between hay bails, saw all kinds of animals, swung on tire swing, and played in a pretend out-house!
